Kids and Chainsaws
Father and son relationships are fading these days, parents are always super busy and have no time for anything. This is true, especially when Dad has some work to do around the house, yard or forest. The last thing they want is the kids around.
Parenting is a tough job and there is a tendency to raise kids to be sensitive, polite and soft. Somehow, the use of force and power tools in general is very far from this. No wonder, that very few Moms are willing to encourage kids to play with heavy machinery and potentially dangerous tools like a portable chainsaw. This is understandable of course.
What are chainsaws?
A chainsaw is a portable, mechanical saw which cuts with a set of teeth attached to a rotating chain that runs along a guide bar. It is used in activities such as tree felling, limbing, bucking, pruning, cutting firebreaks in wildland fire suppression and harvesting of firewood. Chainsaws with specially designed bar and chain combinations have been developed as tools for use in chainsaw art and chainsaw mills. Specialized chainsaws are used for cutting concrete. Chainsaws are sometimes used for cutting ice, for example for ice sculpture and in Finland for winter swimming. Someone who uses a saw is a sawyer (source).
Kids
This is where pretend games and toys come into the picture. Toy chainsaws are good replicas and most of the kids love to play with these. It gives them confidence and they feel more important.
For parents, especially for Dads, this can be a great opportunity to connect.
